Product description
This belt fitting is based on archaeological finds in the Ukrainian city of Chernikov dating to the 10th century AD. Use it to decorate belts, coats, and bags. It measures 3.5 cm and is silver colored.
The fitting was originally used to decorate a caftan. The motif is typical Rusvik, borrowed from the Magyars — a nomadic people who invaded Europe in the 9th century AD and settled in Hungary. The eastern Vikings traded with them and likely used their art motifs in their own objects. The Magyars used caftan closings and also influenced Rusvik fashion. The Rusvik Vikings adopted the style as a caftan closing as well.
