This spatha is a replica of a 3rd-century AD original of the Straubing-Nydam type. Germanic auxiliae introduced spathae into the Roman army.
The sword measures 73 cm long, with a blade 63 cm long and 5.5 cm wide. The hilt is made from bone and decorated with brass ornaments. The spatha weighs 1.4 kg and comes with a wooden scabbard covered in red leather. The scabbard is based on parts found in the Rhineland.
