The scimitar is a curved saber that originated in the Middle East. From the Ottoman period onward, this sword spread widely across the region. Cavalry fighters favored the scimitar for its light weight and curved design, which let riders wound enemies quickly and easily on horseback. Steppe peoples like the Mongols also carried scimitars into battle on horseback. The famous historical figure Saladin — the sultan who fought the Crusaders — wielded a scimitar and is depicted with this weapon in medieval illuminated manuscripts. In medieval Christianity, the scimitar carried a negative association; as a result, villains such as bad characters from Bible stories were shown carrying one.
Made from stainless steel, this scimitar is easy to maintain. The grip is made from wood with a metal fitting. It comes with a leather scabbard included.
