Product description

This belt fitting is based on a 9th-century historical original excavated in Hordaland, Norway. Made in the Borre style (825–970), it works great for decorating belt straps or bags. The fitting measures 2.4 cm and has a silver color.

The fitting shows a Borre-style backward-looking animal in profile — far less common than the gripping-beasts en face. The animal's body fills all available space (horror vacui). This animal motif appeared not just in metalwork, but across all kinds of media, including wood-carvings, stone sculptures, and fabric.
