Product description
French army intelligence forces discovered the Rosetta Stone in 1799 during Napoleon's Egyptian campaign. The stone carries a text in two languages and three different scripts: Egyptian hieroglyphs, the Egyptian demotic script, and the Greek alphabet.
The text is a thanksgiving from the priests of Memphis to King Ptolemaus V Epiphanes, composed on March 27, 196 BC. The stone played an essential role in deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphics and gave scholars a fundamental understanding of the Egyptian language.
Made from plaster alabaster, the stone is a highly detailed replica — the text closely matches the original. Hang it on the wall using the hole on the back. It measures 34 x 28 cm.
