This votive statue is a replica of a 2nd-century AD piece found in a Roman villa in Daun, near Prüm. Small statues of Juno were placed in house altars throughout the Roman empire.

Juno is the goddess of pure air — especially moonlight — and like all moon goddesses, she is a goddess of women, embodying the ideal of a Roman matrona who sits as queen on a lofty throne in heaven (Iuno Regina). She guards wives and mothers, and nearly everything tied to her cult relates to the female sex. Unlike Zeus, who alienated himself from his wife Hera, Jupiter's love adventures left Juno's dignity intact. Composure and dignity defined her character and wedded life.

Crafted by hand from alabaster, this statue stands 21 cm tall. These small statues were likely painted to give them a lifelike appearance.
