This spatha is based on material remains of various third-century original spathas excavated in Podlodów (Poland) in the region of Przeworsk culture. Several blades of the Podlodów type have been found along the Limes. They were presumably forged in Rome and spread throughout the empire by the Roman armies. The blade is fairly wide compared to second-century spathae and features two fullers. It was presumably designed for close combat. A great addition for collectors, this spatha features a beautiful wooden hilt decorated with brass rings in the grip, guard, and pommel. The pommel screws in place. It comes with a luxurious red leather scabbard with a wooden core. The scabbard includes a beautiful brass belt loop (fits belts up to 5 cm wide) and brass decorations at the top and bottom. Strong black cord wraps around the leather scabbard, creating a beautiful authentic effect.
