This matres statue is modeled after a 2nd-century original excavated in Gaul. It now belongs to the collection of Museé d'Argentomagnus in France.

The Matres (Latin 'Mothers') were goddesses worshipped across North and West Europe from the 1st to the 5th century AD. Typically depicted in groups of three on votive stones and altars, they were venerated in regions of Germania, East Gaul, and North Italy as well. Half of the divine names are Celtic; the other half is Germanic.

Handmade from alabaster, the statue stands 15 cm tall. These small statues were likely painted to give them a lifelike appearance.
