The retiarius was the gladiator modeled after a fisherman. He fought armed with a net, a trident, and a dagger, protected only by a galerus and a manica. His opponent was the heavily armored secutor. He used the trident after tangling his opponent in the net.
This is a reconstruction of a retiarius trident from around the year 0, based on a Roman relief. It measures 131 cm in length, 31 cm at its maximum width, and has teeth of 23 cm. It comes with a wooden shaft and weighs about 1.9 kg.
