The Justaucorps or Justacorps is a seventeenth-century coat first worn by armies across various European countries. Over time it became a fashionable garment for ordinary citizens. Pirates, musketeers, privateers, and Jacobites all wore this style of coat during the Dutch Golden Age and the Napoleonic era. Pirates likely took these coats from wealthy merchants and made them part of their own look.
Made from sturdy cotton and fully lined inside, the coat features a close-fitting top that flares out at the bottom. Brass buttons detail the sleeves, chest, and pockets. Colored horizontal and vertical strips are characteristic of these coats.
