This shoulder bag is based on images in medieval illuminated manuscripts and stained glass windows. Shoulder bags were a common type of bag during the Middle Ages and made a good alternative to smaller pouches or belt bags. People could store more in them, making them especially useful for long journeys like pilgrimages. Even in everyday life a larger bag came in handy — farmers carried food with them when heading out to work the land. Pilgrims decorated their bags with pilgrim badges.
