Product description
This pendant features a detailed depiction of a half-human, half-animal creature playing the bagpipes, designed as a medieval minstrel. The original badge dates to 1350–1450 AD and was discovered in the Dutch city of 's-Hertogenbosch. It is currently part of the Van Beuningen collection, as referenced by Koldeweij. The replica measures 3.2 x 2.6 cm.Sew the pendant onto clothing through its openings to wear it as a traditional badge, just as people wore them in the Middle Ages. Available in high-quality silver-plated bronze.
In medieval art, bagpipers are sometimes depicted as animals, with most examples coming from England and the Netherlands during the fifteenth century. The bagpipe's phallic form gave it a strong association with sexual sin in the Middle Ages, earning it a somewhat disreputable reputation.
