Product description
This type of calotte evolved from the nasal helmet in the second half of the 12th century. It protected the entire face, with the visor fitted with viewing and ventilation holes. Soldiers typically wore these helmets alongside a chainmail hauberk and coif. This helmet type stayed in use through the first half of the 13th century.
This Norman calotte is a replica of medieval originals depicted in manuscripts and frescoes. It was popular across Europe and the Holy Land, offering solid protection for the head and face. Knightly orders like the Templars wore helmets like this. Over time, the design evolved into the great helm or pot helm, which also covered the neck.
