Product description
This barbute is modeled after a beautiful original from 1465. The original is currently housed in the Musée de l'Armée in Paris. Craftsmen made it in the Lombard city of Missaglia.
The barbute is a type of sallet designed so the wearer doesn't need to attach a chainmail camail or other neck protection to the helmet. Barbutes like this one originated in northern Italy in the early 15th century. The forward-curving edges protect the cheeks and face without obstructing the field of vision.
Built from 1.6 mm thick steel and fitted with a leather liner, this helmet is a one-of-a-kind piece. It weighs about 2 kg and fits a head circumference of up to 62 cm.
