Product description
The knight's shield, or heater shield, emerged around the end of the 12th century from the Norman kite shield. Victorian historians gave heater shields their name, associating the shape with a Victorian clothes iron. These shields were considerably smaller than the earlier Norman kite shields. They offered less protection to the left leg but were far more maneuverable. In the early 13th century, soldiers used heater shields alongside the large Norman kite shields. Later, only heater shields and bucklers remained in use. Fighters used these shields on the battlefield until the 14th century, then continued using them for tournament purposes.
This shield is beaten with steel for security. It stands 64 cm tall, measures 49 cm wide, and weighs 2.2 kg.
