Product description
This type of great helm, or calotte, emerged in the second half of the 12th century from the nasal helm. It offered more facial protection than the nasal helm. In this early type, you can still clearly see the shapes of a nasal helm with a rounded helmet bowl. European aristocracy wore helmets like this during the Second Crusade, and they remained in use through the first half of the 13th century. Warriors wore these great helms paired with a chainmail coif and a hauberk. Medieval helmets like this appear regularly on monuments, including in churches.Product details
