Product description
A halberd is a two-handed pole weapon widely used in the 14th and 15th centuries. It features an axe-shaped blade with a point on top, mounted on a long wooden shaft. The back of the axe typically has a hook or thorn to catch opponents, especially mounted fighters.
The halberd was the primary weapon of the early Swiss armies in the 14th and early 15th centuries. Later, the Swiss added a spike to improve defense against knights and cavalry attacks.
By the 16th century, halberds became increasingly ornate. This halberd features engravings. By the late 16th century, non-commissioned officers carried these weapons mainly as a special addition to the pike block. Halberds continued to serve a ceremonial role in European armies into the 17th century. The long point allows this halberd to function as a pike as well. The claw-shaped hook on the back pulls cavalrymen off their horses. The tassels originally channeled blood away from the shaft, keeping the grip secure even in the heat of battle. By the 16th century, they also took on a decorative function.
Order this halberd and it ships in parts with a wooden shaft of about 198 cm (78 inches). You'll need to assemble the parts yourself. All components, including rivets, are included. All necessary pins to connect the parts, including the metal strips running along the shaft and the leather tassels, are supplied.
