Product description
Axes like this first appeared in the second half of the 15th century. At that time, armor was growing increasingly effective, creating demand for weapons that could strike through the gaps in plate armor. Both aristocratic cavalry and infantry used axes like these.
The back of this axe features a point, similar to that of a war hammer. The main weapon — the axe blade — has a sloped, rounded edge ending in a hook. Use the hook to pull opponents from their horses. The rounded edge kept the weight lower than that of a typical felling axe. Axes like these stayed in use through the late 16th century and even saw action during the English Civil War.
Made from semi-sharp 1065 carbon steel, this battle axe is tempered to a hardness of 48–52 HRC.
