Product description
Axes like this appeared from the second half of the 15th century. As armor grew increasingly effective during this period, fighters needed weapons capable of striking through the gaps in plate armor. Both aristocratic cavalry and infantry carried axes like these.
The back of this axe features a point, similar to that of a war hammer. The axe blade — the main weapon — has a sloped, rounded edge ending in a hook. Use the hook to pull opponents from their horses. The rounded edge kept the weight lower than that of a typical felling axe. Axes like these stayed in use through the late 16th century and even saw action during the English Civil War.
