Product description

This is a replica of a broad axe from the Viking period, from the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo. Discovered in 2001 in Langeid, Norway, the original was buried in grave 8 of the burial ground there, alongside an ornate sword. Archaeologist Jan Petersen categorised this axe head type as type M, dating it to the second half of the 10th century. The Langeid axe belongs to a somewhat later period, from the first half of the 11th century.
