Product description

The Pourpoint was a garment worn by noblemen in the late 14th century, in both civil and military settings. It marked an important shift in Western fashion, moving away from the rectangular silhouettes of medieval clothing toward the more refined styles of the modern period that began developing in the 15th century. Originally conceived as a military garment, it was cut at the waist to ready the body for the breast harness, which rested between the ribs and the pelvis. This design transferred the weight of the harness from the shoulders down to the hips.

Rather than carrying all the weight of the harness on their shoulders, late medieval knights distributed the load across their bodies. Over time, nobles also adopted the pourpoint in daily life as outerwear over the tunic — eventually replacing it entirely.

This pourpoint is perfect for medieval reenactment. It features 7 pairs of aiglets around the waist and 2 pairs of aiglets for attaching bones. Made from 100% recycled wool and lined with 100% linen. Note: the images show a whole linen version, while this is a wool version. The blue wool runs slightly darker.

Wool fibers trap air, making it a natural insulator that keeps you warm.
It's breathable, so it keeps you warm without overheating.
Wool stays warm even when wet and can repel water — a great choice for rainy days.
While it isn't watertight, wool absorbs up to 30% of its weight in water before it feels wet, keeping you dry in the rain longer.
It's a durable material.
Wool is naturally flame-retardant and safer to wear than polyester during living history events or around campfires.
