Product description
The Shirasaya is a special sword form used mainly in times of peace. The undyed Magnolia wood scabbard and grip protect the blade from acid and other damage. Many Shirasaya featured a Sayagaki — an inscription recording the smith, origin, and classification.
In the 19th century, the Japanese emperor prohibited wearing a katana. The wooden grip makes the sword look like a staff, stick, or bokken, so it could still be carried in the streets of Japan.
This katana features a Shinogi-Zukuri style blade with Hohlkehle (Bo-Hi). Made from 1045 carbon steel with a hardness of 52–55 HRC, the blade is razor sharp with a Hamon finish. Two bamboo stifts (Mekugi) fasten the grip to the tang (Bohrung). The grip is easy to replace.
Overall length is 100.5 cm, with a 72.5 cm blade and a 28 cm grip.
