Product description
The kappa is a creature from Japanese mythology. When people wander too close to the water where it lives, this water goblin grabs them and pulls them into the deep until they drown. According to legend, kappas have a weakness for pickles. The handmade decorations on this katana depict a kappa and unsuspecting wanderers. The fuller is also notable — it begins 10 cm above the hilt (tsuba).
This katana measures 102.5 cm overall, with a 73 cm blade and a 29 cm grip (tsuka). It weighs 1,120 g. The blade is made from Damascus steel, folded 12 times from 1045 carbon steel to create 8,000 layers, forged in the Shinogi-Zukuri style with a fuller. Red cotton wraps the grip in the classical Hineri-Maki style over a lining of genuine shagreen.
The black high-polish lacquered scabbard (saya) is crafted from wood in the Kuroro style. Two bamboo pins (mekugi) lock the long tang (nakago) firmly into the grip. A fabric protective cover is included.
John Lee models are inspired by historical originals and are high-quality weapons. No plastics are used — only quality authentic materials like metal, brass, wood, and shagreen. Every John Lee weapon ships with a seal and a certificate of authenticity.
