Product description
This Italian cuirass reconstructs an example from around 1450, built in the Milanese style. Cuirasses in this style date from the early 15th century and appear in several notable collections, including the famous Avant armor. Widely worn across Europe, this style was not tied to any specific region. Recognize the Milanese armor style by its large, round, and undecorated plate shapes. Helmets paired with this style include the sallet, armet, and barbute.
Wear a full chainmail shirt beneath Milanese armor. Warriors often wore Milanese armor pieces as a complete suit, though individual pieces were also common. This cuirass includes faulds — the lames at the bottom of the cuirass — giving the legs added freedom of movement. Tassets attach below the faulds to protect the tops of the legs. Wear a mail haubergeon underneath to cover the gap between the tassets.
Made from 1.2 mm thick steel, the cuirass includes a breastplate, a back plate, and two tassets. The straps come fitted with replica buckles. Fits a chest circumference of 125 to 143 cm (including a gambeson) and measures 64 cm long (without tassets). Weighs about 7.5 kg.
