Product description
This medieval bascinet replicates a late 14th to early 15th-century original. Developed at the beginning of the 15th century, the great bascinet improved on the traditional design by adding a neck guard. This extra neck protection makes an aventail (camail) no longer strictly necessary. Bascinets like this offered excellent protection and saw use on the battlefield and in jousting tournaments.
Soldiers wore bascinets of this type throughout Europe during the 15th century. This particular model was likely of Italian manufacture. The luxurious houndskull bascinet features a movable neck guard, with both the visor and skull sharply pointed to deflect blows. Fit the helmet with attachments for an aventail with ease.
Built from 2 mm thick steel, this battle-ready bascinet includes an adjustable leather liner.
