This haubergeon is made from 1.8 mm wide flat rings with an inner diameter of 8 mm. The rings are woven in a four-in-one pattern and then riveted. It features mid-length sleeves and reaches just over the hip.
Vikings and others in the early Middle Ages wore short chainmail shirts like these. They stayed in use until the 11th century and made a comeback in the second half of the 14th century. From that point on, short chainmail shirts like this were called haubergeons — a diminutive of hauberk, or long chainmail shirt. Haubergeons offer better protection and more freedom of movement than the hauberk. That made them ideal to wear under armor.
Attach armor parts to the shoulders and arms of the haubergeon easily using leather laces.
Available in sizes M, L, and XL. Chest circumference is measured including a gambeson (subarmalis).
All measurements are taken fully stretched.
