Short chainmail coats like this one were worn in the early Middle Ages by, among others, the Vikings. They remained in use until the 11th century and returned in the second half of the 14th century. From that point on, these short coats of mail were called haubergeons — a diminutive of hauberk, or long coat of chainmail. Haubergeons offer better protection and more freedom of movement than the hauberk. That makes them ideal to wear under a suit of armor. Made from riveted aluminum rings mixed with rubber rings, this chainmail is lightweight and stretchable.
