Product description

This Greek helmet replicates a 4th-century original discovered in the Tigris, Iraq. The original is on display at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England. Historians believe it belonged to a cavalryman from Alexander the Great's Macedonian army. The shape comes from the Greek region of Boeotia, where craftsmen made such helmets from a single piece of bronze, modeling them on a traditional felt hat worn in the region — the petasos. Cavalrymen and hoplites favored this style for the strong protection it provided to the face and neck, without blocking sight or hearing. The helmet ships with a thick cotton cap for added comfort. A great choice for collectors and re-enactors of the Greek armies and the Roman Republican armies of Classical Antiquity.
