The later Gothic style (1440–1500) featured sharp, richly decorated forms. These armors followed Burgundian fashion, with a breastplate ending high on the thighs — much like the fashionable doublet of the period. Soldiers wore chainmail voiders and a chainmail skirt instead of a full hauberk, paired with long, pointed sabatons. This type of armor was often worn with a sallet and bevor, though gorgets and kettle hats were also common. Gothic armors featured compact, ornate shoulder protection with angular besagews. Gauntlets came in two styles: individual fingers or full mitten-style.
These shoulder pieces are modeled on 15th-century Gothic originals. Warriors across Late Medieval Europe wore this style of shoulder armor. Each pauldron is fitted with rondels — small discs that protect the gap between the armpit and adjoining armor parts. Leather straps let you fasten the shoulder pieces directly to a gorget or bevor.
