Product description
The buff coat derives from the simple leather vest (jerkin) worn by hunters and soldiers during the Tudor period, which in turn evolved from the padded arming doublet worn under armor. Soldiers used it as a European military garment from around 1600 until the 1680s. Typically worn under cuirasses, it offered protection against cutting weapons such as rapiers and sabers. Most buff coats had sleeves, but some were sleeveless.
Made from 1.4–1.6 mm brown suede leather, this buff coat fastens at the front with leather laces. It's perfect for 17th-century costumes — the Dutch Golden Age, musketeers, pirates, and more. Available in sizes S to XXL; see the image for measurements.
