This helmet draws from several early medieval originals. Spangen helmets like this were worn throughout Europe between the 5th and 11th centuries. Originally, helmets of this type came in several parts held together with straps. This one features a single-piece helmet bowl for extra strength. The nose piece is extra reinforced at 2 mm thick. The rest of the helmet is 1.6 mm thick. By the 11th century, the spangenhelm gave way to the nose helmet — a one-piece design that offered much greater protection. The maximum inner circumference is 70 cm, not including the helmet insert. It comes equipped with an inlay and chin strap. If you plan to wear extra padding, measure your head circumference while wearing it. The padded liner already attached inside is usually sufficient. Remove the helmet insert to create more room.
