Product description
The kaftan, or Klappenrock, is a garment that originated with nomadic steppe peoples like the Magyars, Huns, and Avars. Early medieval Europeans who traded with those peoples adopted it for themselves. It became especially popular among the Rusvik Vikings, who added numerous decorations to the garment. Anglo-Saxons and Vikings in Scandinavia wore it too. Several visual historical sources show early medieval people in kaftans — including the warriors on the Sutton Hoo helmet. Archaeological remains have also been found at Haithabu. This replica is made from sturdy cotton. Wear it with a belt for the most authentic look. It reaches to the knee, just like the originals. Please note: accessories shown in images, such as the belt and the fur, are not included.
