Product description
Oil lamps like this one were used across the Roman Empire from the 1st century AD onward. They served as the most important source of artificial lighting. Today, you can find oil lamps like this in the collections of major museums, including the Landesmuseum in Trier, the British Museum in London, and the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam.
Originally fueled by olive oil, this lamp also works with modern lamp oil. Made entirely by hand using two different molds, it was fired at 1,200°C. It measures 26 x 12 cm.
