Product description
People wore leather vests like this from the early 16th to the mid-17th century — gamekeepers, seafarers, and soldiers who worked outdoors. Jerkins replaced the earlier arming doublets, worn as a base layer under plate armor. Like the later arming doublet, this garment was popular outside of armor too, with no military context required. They gave the wearer a rugged, masculine look and solid protection against the elements. From the 17th century, the buff coat evolved from this garment and became exclusively military. Historically, this type of leather jacket was often worn over the doublet, and sometimes the two were matched.
The adjustable design fits a range of body types and ensures a secure fit. Side lacing lets you fine-tune the placement and adjustment of this lightweight armor for flexibility and ease of movement.
Because leather is a natural material, expect slight variations in color and texture from piece to piece.
