The chainmail coif dates back to at least the 11th century AD. Soldiers wore chainmail coifs on their own or beneath a helmet. Many depictions, such as those in the Morgan Bible from 1250, show the coif fitting closely around the head. Leather laces at the top improved the fit, while additional laces fastened the lower edge to the gambeson or hauberk, keeping the coif securely in place. For added comfort, wear a textile cap or arming cap underneath.

This chainmail coif is based on original medieval coifs. Wear it separately or under a helmet. It covers the shoulders, neck, and head and features a square visor. Made from round rings with an inner diameter of 8 mm.
Tip: attach leather straps to the gambeson to keep the neck part of this coif firmly in place.
