The chainmail coif appeared at least as early as the 11th century AD. People wore chainmail coifs either on their own or beneath a helmet. Many depictions, such as those in the Morgan Bible from 1250, show the chainmail coif fitting snugly around the head. Leather laces were sometimes used at the top to improve the fit, while additional laces could fasten the lower edge of the coif to the gambeson or hauberk, keeping the coif securely in place. For added comfort, wear a textile cap or arming cap underneath the coif.

This chainmail coif is based on original medieval coifs. Wear it separately or under a helmet — it covers the shoulders, neck, and head and features a square visor. Made from round rings with an inner diameter of 8 mm.
Tip: attach leather straps to the gambeson to keep the neck part of the coif firmly in place.
