Product description
Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar — better known as El Cid — was a Castilian nobleman who conquered and controlled Valencia after his exile. El Cid means 'the lord' in a mix of Spanish and Arabic. He carried two swords: Tizona and Colada. El Cid won Colada from the Count of Barcelona and gave it to one of his sons-in-law, then reclaimed it when he mistreated his daughter. A sword thought to be Colada is now on display at the Royal Palace of Madrid.
This richly decorated version of the Colada measures 102 cm in length. The grip and pommel are finished with brass, and the blade is engraved.
This sword is an Oakeshott type XVIIIc.
