Product description
The crossbow was an important weapon in medieval European warfare. Crossbows were already in use among the Greeks and Romans. The Latin text De Re Militari, by military historian Vegetius, mentions crossbows. The only surviving images of crossbows from Roman times come from Roman Gaul and show hunters.
In medieval Europe, armies used crossbows in battle, especially from the twelfth century onward. The longbow was easier to handle — the crossbow took a long time to reload due to the crannequin used for heavy crossbows. Many considered the crossbow an evil weapon, and for a time Christians were forbidden from killing other Christians with one. After the Middle Ages, firearms replaced the crossbow.
This crossbow is designed for decorative use. It features beautiful wood carving decorations and comes with a crossbow arrow included.
