Product description
This armet is based on early 16th-century originals. It was the first helmet of its time to fully enclose the head while staying compact and light enough to move with the wearer. Knights and fully armored warriors wore it almost exclusively.
The helmet needed a mechanism to open and close for practical wear. A typical armet had four components: the skull, two large hinged cheekpieces that closed over the chin at the front, and a visor with double pivot points—one on each side of the skull.
This style was hugely popular among the aristocracy of the Holy Roman Empire, Italy, France, England, the Low Countries, and Spain. The armet hit its peak in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, when full Western European armor had been perfected. Around 1515, German smiths developed a variant with a much wider lower section that extended to the ears. The cheekpieces on this type swung outward on vertical hinges at the edges of that wider neck section.
Wear the helmet fully closed or with the visor open. A steel pin construction connects the bevor and visor, letting you lock them together. The visor includes ventilation holes and an eye slit. A plume holder at the back lets you attach a plume or feathers. This medieval helmet fits a maximum head circumference of 66 cm, and the adjustable liner lets you customize the fit to your head size.
