Product description
This monk habit is modeled after habits worn by the Cistercian Order from the 12th century onward. Known as the 'White Monks' for the color of their habit, the Cistercians placed a strong emphasis on manual labor and self-sufficiency. Bernard of Clairvaux (1090–1153) was the primary reformer of the order and helped spread it throughout Europe during the 12th century.
The habit comes with a chaperon and a waistband. Wearing the habit represented a commitment to chastity and the rejection of worldly possessions.
