Product description
This helmet is a replica of a late 14th-century bascinet from the Churburg armor. Today, the original is housed in the collection of Churburg Castle.
Around 1380, a new type of bascinet emerged with a distinctive visor. This style is commonly known as the houndskull or pig-faced bascinet. The houndskull bascinet delivered excellent facial protection, and its pointed visor helped deflect blows away from the face. It also improved ventilation — the larger surface area allowed for more breathing holes to keep air circulating. This design appeared around 1380 and stayed in use well into the 15th century.
This houndskull bascinet features a pointed visor built to deflect strikes to the face. The visor includes ventilation holes and delivers a good field of vision. Like the original, the helmet is decorated with brass fittings. Fits head circumferences up to 61 cm.
