A shoulder piece like this was also called a pixane. Pixanes were sewn to the gambeson and typically worn underneath the suit of armor. This protected the wearer at the open spots in the suit of armor.
Made from round chain mail rings with an inner diameter of 8 mm, the rings are woven in a four-in-one pattern and riveted with round rivets. The shoulder piece measures 36 x 27 cm and has a neck opening of 15 x 24 cm. It weighs about 0.8 kg.
