This sword is modeled after a 10th-century original excavated in England. Swords like this saw use across Europe between the 9th and 12th centuries. It ranks among the most frequently excavated types of medieval sword.
The blade measures 79 cm long and up to 4.2 cm wide, with an overall length of 91 cm. Made from carbon steel at about 52 HRC hardness, the blade holds a reliable edge. The grip is made from wood and wrapped in leather. The sword weighs about 1,250 g.
Baldr was the god of light and beauty. He married Nanna and fathered a son, Forseti. Nothing could kill Baldr — except weapons made from mistletoe. Loki crafted a mistletoe spear and guided Baldr's blind brother Höðr to throw it. Baldr died, setting Ragnarok in motion.
This sword is an Oakeshott type X.
