Product description
Based on a 10th-century original, this belt end fits belt straps 3 cm wide and measures 2.5 x 4.5 cm. Belt ends protected and decorated the belt. It is silver colored.
This belt end shares the shape and decoration of the bronze scabbard mount found in York, England. An openwork S-shaped animal with tendril intertwining in the late Jellinge style decorates the surface. At the top, look for a triangular animal head.
Scandinavian warriors carried their swords in scabbards with mounts decorated in the Jellinge style as they traveled all over Europe. The shape of this piece lets you use it as either a belt end or a scabbard mount.
