Product description
This belt end draws inspiration from the Jellinge art style (890–990). It has a bronze color and fits a belt strap 3 cm wide. It measures 4.8 x 2.5 cm.
The ribbon-animal decoration, the head shown in profile, the almond-shaped eyes, and the striped body are all hallmarks of the Viking Jellinge art style. Inspired by historical examples, this belt end carries an elegant look. The Jellinge style spread throughout the Viking world and appears in every European country Vikings traveled to during the 10th century.
The animal on this belt end is the Midgardsorm, or Midgard snake. Thor had a feud with the Midgardsorm. According to Old Norse mythology, it was foretold that Thor and the Midgardsorm would kill each other at Ragnarok — the end of the old world. The god Odin would be eaten by the wolf Fenrir.
