Product description
The buff coat descends from the simple leather vest (jerkin) worn by hunters and soldiers during the Tudor period, itself based on the padded arming doublet worn under armor. Buff coats served as European military clothing from around 1600 until the 1680s. Soldiers typically wore them under cuirasses for protection against cutting weapons such as rapiers and sabers. Most buff coats had sleeves, though some were sleeveless.
Made from durable suede leather, this buff coat provides reliable protection against wind and light rain. Sturdy leather straps secure the closure.
