Product description
During the Renaissance, the sword increasingly took on a secondary role alongside the gun or pistol. Blades grew slimmer, hilts replaced cross-guards, and points were sharpened for fast, effective thrusting.
The ricasso — an unpolished section of the blade — grew in popularity and saw frequent use. Among the most recognized Renaissance swords, the rapier served primarily as a dueling and fashion sword. Originating as early as 1470, it evolved into a quick thrusting weapon with no cutting edges.
This rapier comes with a scabbard included. A similar model saw widespread use across many Christian kingdoms during the 16th century, including Austria under Emperor Maximilian. Overall length is 112 cm, blade length is 88 cm, width is 3 cm, and weight is 1.2 kg.
