Armor mittens emerged around the beginning of the 15th century. In armored mittens, small pieces of steel protected individual fingers — significantly weaker than larger steel plates covering all fingers at once. This led to gauntlets and mittens growing increasingly popular through the first half of the 15th century. Gauntlets like these are part of the Avant armor, among others. These gauntlets ship without inner gloves.
