Product description
By the early 14th century, kettle hats with sloping brims started appearing across Europe. As metalworking techniques improved, manufacturers could produce them from a single piece more cost-effectively. The sloped brim deflected projectiles from above, reducing impact on both the helmet and the wearer's head. This design proved so effective that even aristocrats wore it. The brim protected against downward strikes and projectiles, while the helmet delivered an excellent field of vision, good hearing, and strong protection.
Soldiers wore kettle hats like this throughout Europe in the 15th century. One original is part of the collection at the Hofjagd- und Rüstkammer in Vienna.
