Product description
The barbute is a type of sallet developed so the wearer didn't need mail, a camail, or other neck protection. Barbutes first appeared at the beginning of the 15th century. This specific type emerged in the second half of the 15th century. It bears less resemblance to the traditional sallet than its predecessors and was likely heavily inspired by the Greek Corinthian helmets of classical antiquity.
During the Italian Renaissance, interest in this era ran high — by the early 16th century it had even given rise to the all'antica armor style. The barbute grew increasingly popular and spread across Europe. It protected the head while offering exceptional comfort and visibility, making it a top choice among warriors and knights throughout the medieval period.
This barbute is based on Italian originals and features a T-shaped visor. The forward-projecting edges protect the cheeks and face while keeping a full field of vision open.
Secure the helmet with the chin strap. A suede lining lets you dial in a customized fit.
